Hello:

I am having a chronic problem with my Broadstripe cable service, and they are about to send out a tech for the second time to try and fix the problem. If anyone has any time, I would appreciate any insight so that I can maybe help the tech guy figure out what is up.

Here is the basic problem: No internet connection.

Here is the cable modem: Ambit U10C018

Here is my basic configuration: cable from the wall -> cable modem -> network cable -> network card. I sometimes have a router and cable phone unit hooked up, but this problem occurs even when I have the simple configuration of wire -> modem -> network cable -> network card set up.

Here is how I start up:

1. Computer is off
2. Modem is off, power is unplugged, cable wire is not attached to unit. I wait for 2-3 minutes.
3. I plug the cable wire into the modem and wait a second or two.
4. I plug the power into the modem and wait.
5. The lights on the front blink on and off in various configurations, but the final result is always the same: the ready light blinks slowly on and off.
6. I start up the computer

The final pattern of lights looks like this:

Power - Solid Green
USB - nothing
Enet - Solid Green
Send - nothing
Recv - Solid Green, occasionally blinks or strobes
Sync - Solid Green, occasionally blinks or strobes
Ready - Slowing Blinking

According to the manufacturer, the blinking Ready light measn this: "modem is gathering upstream parameters" and when I log into the modem's diagnostics, I get several critical errors like:

Response to Broadcast Maintenance Request, But no Unicast Maintenance opportunities received - T3 timeout

and

SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire FEC framing

Anyway, this post is mega-huge, so I will stop. I am not a complete internet idiot, but I also feel a little over my head. Is this a modem problem? A problem with my provider? Is there any software out there where I can test and see if my modem is fried in some way?

Thanks for the time.
