Hi,
I recently bought a house, and I've returned to Mediacom's Internet service since the nodes are not overloaded here. The service was installed last month, and I'm on the 12mbit plan. When the installer was here, he said the line was RG59, but was not allowed to replace it with RG6 since I didn't have TV service. That seems like an odd policy to have, can anyone vouch for it being true?
When I first had the installation done, it seemed a lot of my TCP connections were getting reset. This seemed to go away after power cycling the modem, a DCM245, a couple times. However, the problem is creeping its way back. When I go to »192.168.100.1, I do NOT get any signal stats with this modem, just a generic page. How can I check the signal levels? Is the DCM245 still supported? The modem I was given looks pretty grungy and beat up.
I'm leaning towards the drops being a modem issue and not a line issue, even with the line being RG59, since rebooting the modem seems to make it better for a while. If I just carry my modem into the office, will they swap it for a newer one? Or do I have to call and play customer service roulette?
EDIT: I found a URL path in another thread buried somewhere stating that on this modem you need to go to »192.168.100.1/moreinfo.html for the signal levels, which isn't linked on that generic page at all.
