A28 Guide Upgrade question - corruption possible?
If I'm using the box when the upgrade goes thru (say I'm watching and recording a program), then will my DVR accept the upgrade? Also, If I press the power button on the remote when the upgrade is being downloaded, then will that mess up the upgrade?
Reason I'm asking this is that we have family members up at all hours, so anyone could theoretically forget that when the box randomly turns off, it's for a reason :P. Could any button-pressing cause the upgrade to fail and the box to either a) not receive the upgrade, or b) have the upgrade corrupted and the box requiring an exchange?

I'm also wondering if they try to push buttons during an upgrade, if anything on the screen says "Software update in progress" or any indication to the end user on the TV screen that the box isn't broken, just getting updated.

Possible yes, probably no. Anything is possible.
It generally does not shut off, it reboots and I believe there is a time period where it waits for you to reboot it, if not done then forces itself. However there are always one offs, and sometimes boxes shut off but do not turn back on, sometimes the download is corrupt and needs a forced redownload, etc..
No there is no way to not receive the upgrade by pressing a button [unless its the button that controls the power outlet in your house], the Out of band carrier is always sending data to your box anyway, it just sends the new guide and once the box reboots it is what is loaded into ram and used. Some boxes may indicate they are downloading data, generally these are the older big beast moto's with the clock on the front that I see do it, but this is after a forced redownload too, and not under normal operation.
