s it legal for a cable provider to REQUIRE you to buy other communication services in order to get their internet cable service ?
Where we moved to there is only ONE provider available for cable internet and it is a local company, and they will not let you buy JUST the cable internet service by itself, they require you to also buy their phone service + their long distance service + their cable tv service in order to get their cable internet service, but I do not want their cable tv service and I do not feel that it is fair to require for me to pay for something I do not want just to get the cable internet service.
It would cost me about $200 a month to be able to have 1MB cable internet service because of having to pay for their whole package, Earthlink-cable is not available in this area, but Earthlink-cable would only cost me about $50 a month just for the internet cable.
We had DSL where we moved from but they do not have DSL available in this area and from what I heard about satellite internet it is very undependable.
So I might have to settle for dial-up unless another cable internet provider makes their service available in our area and allows you to buy just the internet cable by itself - or - if it is illegal for the local company to make you buy their other services then perhaps we can have the FCC or whoever make them change their policy.
If it IS legal then it is still VERY unfair anyhow !
Thanks in advance for any info anyone has on this question !
I am not sure about the Legality of the issue (Try contacting your lawyer or local cable board) but the cable company is NOT REQUIRED to provide you service. How many people have told you this and what company is it?
