    Default cable box splitting

hey can any one explain this to me?i have one cable box.. and 2 new tv's in the room.i want to split the cable box to both tv's.. i bought a hdmi splitter to run off the cable box.then i split the signal to both tv's.for a few seconds it worked.the the screens said something about dvi something.then there was sound on one tv but not the other.then there was picture on one but not the other.i just want to watch some tv events on both tv's and watch one tv through the box or maybe both.. what else do i need to make this happen?

HDMI splitters are notoriously crappy. You'll have to look at a commercial grade splitter if you want one that works.
