I'm thinking of getting digital cable but what's killing the deal is I would have to get 3 cable boxes at $4 a month. Can I just go out and buy more receivers and plug them in? The cable company uses Explorer 2200 boxes for basic digital cable and they don't use smart cards unless you get pay movie channels like HBO.
For that matter will a DVR receiver (8300) work? That service is $14 a month so I figure you can't just plug it in and receive it.
HDTV local channels are more too, what a rip off. Might put an antenna in my attic to pick up the HD signals but that involves a whole new set of problems. So let's start with if the explorer 2200 will plug in and work.
The answer is no. First of all Scientific Atlanta does not sell boxes to individuals, therefore any box you receive off of ebay or anywhere else is likely stolen from a cable company. Second, for the reasons stated above, cable companies do not activate personal equipment.
And just so you know, you usually do not HAVE to have all of your sets set up with boxes. You can usually just set up the main set with digital and receive analog programming on your others.
