Hi all - I would appreciate assistance with splitters. Here's my situation:
Single cable line coming to house and install tech tells me I have +10 signal. I have 12 connections in the house of which I must connect 8 (the other four are "extra" locations within bedrooms). This is a newly constructed house and the electrician ran all cable wire. The electrician installed a 6-way splitter right from the main input. He then split to a four-way and then to a three-way. Needless to say, the cable installer just shook his head, said I would have to reconfigure splitters and purchase an amp.
Need your collective wisdom here:
1) I purchased a 4-way splitter (GE) from Home Depot. It shows -7.5db at each output and 5-1Gig digital label. I connected the main cable line to this 4-way, fed three tvs and left the fourth output as the input to an amp.
2) The amp, directly off the first four-way is another GE product ($36 at HD) labeled +20db gain. It has only one output. I fed the output to another four way splitter. It now feeds four tvs. At this point I have cable service to 7 tvs. The first three from #1 above have relatively good signal and picture. The tvs fed after the amp and from the second 4-way are relatively poor.
Should I have the amp immediately off the main line rather than after the first 4-way?
The electrician had installed a 6-way immediately of the main line as the first split. Markings on the 6-ways show 2500mhz (I believe). How does this differ from the new 4-way I purchased which shows 1GIG? Should I use what the electrician provided?
Again, I would like to feed at minimum 8 but possibly 10 tvs. Your assistance is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
