    Default SB5120 and MAX Online

I own and have used the SB5120, SB5101 and SB6120 with Medicom MAX. Both the the SB5120 and SB5101 worked flawlessly with their present service offerings. I currently use the SB5101 because it offers the most consistent performance and have heard from a few of the techs that they feel this is due to the Broadcom BCM3349 chipset it uses. Both the SB5120 and SB6120 use Texas Instruments (TI) chipsets--the TI4401 in the SB5120 and the TI Puma 5 chipset in the SB6120. The SB6120 has issues (some firmware related) and isn't officially supported by Mediacom, yet. When I used the SB6120, I was receiving very poor upstream performance despite identical signal strength readings with the other modems. The SB6120 is a DOCSIS 3.0 modem and I will try it again once Mediacom offers DOCSIS 3.0 services.
