Default TWCNYC WideBand: Beware of using your own modem.

I got my "wideband" modem installed 3 days after it came out. They gave me a SMC wireless router. By the way the password and login is cusadmin, password for those of you that dont know already. As many of you have read, we were experiencing issues with downloading large files, and the modem losing sync. 5 times techs came out to resolve the issue. finally after 1 day they resolved it mysteriously. So i decided to get rid of their POS modem, and use my SB6120 that i bought from Fry's when it first came out. BTW, the Best Buy is Rego Park has these in stock. Well the problem came back with the Motorola. The modem would lock up after some downloads, BUT i read online that if you updated with the latest firmware, (the firmware i had was 1.0.1.1. Latest is 1.0.1.8) all the problems would go away. That doesnt happen..... Time warner cable of NYC WILL NOT upgrade your personally owned modems. So with this new technology, and a lot of firmware upgrades in the future, BEWARE. A lot of bitching, and some phone calls to motorola and timewarner, i went to best buy, and bought another modem with the latest firmware (look on the box it labels the firmware version number) and did the ol' switch-a-roo. returned the old one. Oh, and another thing, it takes 3 days to provision, and the level 3 tech do not know you can use your own modem. Good luck to all who provision your own modem with wideband service.....

At least now you should be doing MUCH better than the piece of crap SMC router is. That usually happens when someone is first to take a step and get the first generation of a tech toy.
Today i had a TWC guy at my gf's place 11103 to install wideband cause sales rep told me over the phone that its available. My gf clearly has 1 single downstream channel 687mhz and 2 upload... I KNEW it's not available, but had him come anyway... He installed a brand new wire and the signal levels are now great, but as i said, the crappy SMC modem they brought gave me about 12 down and 3.7mbps up. No channels bonded. I told him to take that SMC back with him since i didnt want the turbo or whatever they were trying to sell us. We are not paying for installation too.

At least we got brand new drop.
