Default Motorola SB4100 wont hold connection

I have an apartment provided Motorla SB4100 and it constantly drops connection. More specifically if requires me to go into the wrt54g and DHCP Release then DHCP Renew with ALWAYS brings the connection back. I know nothing about cable, dont have a manual for the modem etc. What could be going on? its connected directly to the router (WRT54g) on stock firmware.
Router is setup for AutoConfiguration DHCP.
Provider is Grande, again I live in college apartments, and its all provided for me so no other info avail lol.

If you hook your computer directly to the modem, and the problem goes away, it was the router. If you still disconnect, it is the modem. If it is the router, try wired, and wireless.

    Software Version: SB4100-0.4.4.8-SCM00-NOSH
    Hardware Version: 0
    MIB Version: II
    GUI Version: 1.0
    VxWorks Version: 5.3

The problem occurs over wireless and wired. Ill have to try straight to the computer here in a bit, Thanks
